How to Cancel Your Vodafone Contract in Germany (The Easy Way)

Cancelling an internet or mobile contract in Germany used to be a bureaucratic nightmare involving fax machines and registered letters. However, laws have changed to protect consumers.
Whether you have a contract for Vodafone Mobile, DSL, or Cable, here is how to cancel it properly without getting a headache.
The "One-Click" Cancellation (New Law since 2022) The original advice often pointed to hidden contact forms, but since July 1, 2022, a new German law (Fair Consumer Contracts Act) requires all telecom providers to have a clearly visible "Cancel Contract" button (Kündigungsbutton) on their website.
This is the fastest and safest method because it does not require a login and provides immediate digital proof.
How to find it:
Go to the Vodafone.de homepage.
Scroll to the very bottom (footer).
Look for the link "Vertrag kündigen" (Cancel contract).
Select "Internet & Festnetz" (Internet/Landline) or "Mobilfunk" (Mobile).
Fill out the web form. You do not need to sign anything by hand.
Alternative: Cancelling via Email or Post If you prefer the "old school" way or cannot use the online form, you can still cancel in writing. Since October 1, 2016, a signature is no longer strictly legally required for these contracts (text form is sufficient), but you need to ensure it arrives.
By Post (Recommended for disputes): If you have a legal dispute or need absolute proof of delivery (Einschreiben), send a letter to:
Vodafone GmbH Kundenbetreuung 40875 Ratingen Germany
By Email: Warning: Direct email addresses like [email protected] are often unreliable for cancellations. We strongly recommend using the official web form (mentioned above) which acts as a digital email and sends you a confirmation.
What Information Do You Need? Regardless of the method you choose (Button, Form, or Letter), you must include the following data to ensure Vodafone can find your account:
Full Name (as stated on the contract)
Customer Number (Kundennummer) – found on your monthly bill.
Contract Number (Vertragsnummer) – distinct from the customer number.
The Service Address (for DSL/Cable) or Mobile Number (for mobile contracts).
Your Contact Details (current email and phone number for questions).
Request for Confirmation: Always add the sentence: "Bitte senden Sie mir eine Kündigungsbestätigung." (Please send me a cancellation confirmation).
Important: Confirmation is Key Never assume your contract is cancelled until you hold a confirmation (Kündigungsbestätigung) in your hands (or email inbox). This document proves the date your contract officially ends.
If you use the online form ("Kündigungsbutton"), take a screenshot of the summary page and save the automatic email receipt immediately.
Special Case: Leaving Germany (Sonderkündigungsrecht) If you are an expat leaving Germany permanently, you generally have a special right of termination (Sonderkündigungsrecht).
You can usually cancel with a 1-month notice period if you move to a location where Vodafone cannot provide service (i.e., abroad).
You will need to upload your deregistration certificate (Abmeldebescheinigung) from the German citizens' office (Bürgeramt) as proof.
You can upload this document directly through the cancellation form mentioned above by selecting "Moving abroad" as the reason.
